All About INFJ Personality Types

Introverts report to the front of the class!

There are four personality categories: Analysts, Diplomats, Sentinels, and Explorers. Each category has 4 personality types of their own. My personality type falls under the Diplomat category as an Advocate (INFJ).

INFJ stands for: introversion, intuitive, feeling, judging.

I’ve taken the Myers and Briggs ’16 Personalities’ test multiple times and every time I always get the same result so it really proves how accurate it is. I believe it’s very important to know or to at least understand the personality of the people in your life- friends, family, and your working partners or co-workers. Not all personalities work well together which often results in conflict.

Rare & Unique

Advocates are known to come off as quiet, calm and reserved while possessing a strong “mystery” to us that attracts people, making us very likeable. According to Myers and Briggs, advocates are the most rare personality type of all. Advocates are very complex but also versatile, meaning we could be soft-spoken and under-stated one day, then highly opinionated and chatty the next. It’s not easy to figure us out at all.

We have no problem standing up for what’s right and doing whatever it takes to spark change or make an impact which makes us great humanitarians. Hence the name- Advocates.

Some of our strong characteristics include: having a deep sense of idealism, intellectual, empathetic, honest, thoughtful, intuitive, polite, well-organized, creative, compassionate, highly perceptive of others, and having the ability to uplift others. Advocates also really value alone time because it gives us the chance to recharge and decompress. As empaths we can become very drained, very fast after social situations.

Some of our weaknesses include: being overly judgmental and very criticizing, perfectionists, moody (when we feel smothered), difficulty expressing our feelings, withdrawn, overly rational, dramatic, control freaks (everything has to be planned out and organized), and although we have a strong sense of justice we’re more likely to stand up for others and not ourselves.

I always thought it was funny how I can have such thick skin when someone is coming at me sideways, but the minute someone f**ks with someone I love or care about, I’m ready to fight and go to war for them.

Advocates are drawn to careers in health-care (I’ve worked in healthcare for 5+ years), counselors, social workers, teachers, authors, yoga instructors, and spiritual leaders. Music, photography, writing, design, and art are our biggest passions and interests. We also have a huge focus on personal growth and purpose.

Next, there are two types of advocates: INFJ-T (Turbulent Advocates) and INFJ-A (Assertive Advocates). The biggest difference between the two: Assertive Advocates are more likely to be confident and relaxed. Turbulent Advocates are likely to be more self-criticizing and more sensitive to stressors (basically the chaotic ones).

Can you guess which one I am?

INFJ-Assertive Advocate

Assertive Advocates are even tempered, self-assured, confident, and works well under stress. They don’t dwell on the past and prior mistakes. And rather not live with regrets and are always prepared to expect the unexpected. Nervousness doesn’t stop them from pursuing their goals and being successful. Down fall- can be overly confident with big egos.

INFJ-Turbulent Advocate

Turbulent Advocates are perfectionistic, success-driven, eager for improvement. They notice the small things and problems before they turn into bigger problems. They are more sensitive to stress but are able to use it as a motivator to achieve goals. To them, there’s always room to do more, to have more, and to be more. Down fall- self doubt, often has thoughts of regret, and very worrisome. If you haven’t guessed by now, I am a Turbulent Advocate. Yay me!

But, Are We Compatible Tho?

According to personalityrelationships.net, there are four primary Myers-Briggs personalities that seem to get along best in INFJ relationships. The first personality is the ENFP (extrovert, intuitive, feeling, and perceiving). This personality shares intuitiveness yet the extrovert trait is a nice complement to the “protector” persona of INFJ’s. I personally love having extrovert friends, they keep things fun and are great to go on adventures and to travel with.

ENTP (extrovert, intuitive, thinking, perceiving) is another personality type that gets along well with the INFJ for the same reasons. INTJ (introvert, intuitive, thinking, judging) displays many of the same primary personality traits as the INFJ and will likely be more understanding and accepting. They will force us to think with our heads and be smarter rather than being so emotional. The fourth most suitable personality type is of course another INFJ. Because who else would understand the great feeling of canceled plans than another introvert.

INFJ’s are big on trustworthiness as we do not open up easily. Being with someone who is patient and considerate of that is a plus, we don’t want to feel forced to open up before we’re ready. Very close, loving, nurturing, long-term relationships are important to us. The individual that chooses to be with an INFJ personality type must be reliable, consistent, well-organized, family and goal oriented. Too much spontaneity and impulsiveness is a no for us.

Famous INFJ Personality Types
