Spring is in the air and I couldn’t be happier. The spring equinox occurs on March 20th and the season ends June 20th. Here are some things that I love about springtime and why:
Daylight Savings Time.
During this time of the year, ‘Daylight Savings Time’ brings longer days and shorter nights. We do lose an hour of sleep but it’s worth it in my opinion. I still can’t believe that I’ve become a morning person and that I’m usually sleep before 9:30/10pm most nights. Waking up early to get my day started makes me feel more productive and energized. The sooner I can get all my tasks done, the sooner I can have my free time.
I’ve even noticed that if I sleep in too long and wake up past noon, I’m more prone to feel off-balanced and agitated because I slept the entire morning away. I will always love leaving work and seeing that it’s still bright and sunny outside. There was something about it being pitch-black dark at 4:30pm that didn’t sit right with me. In conclusion: Daylight, I love you.
Pink, green, blue, yellow, purple, and orange- are all some of the beautiful colors that flowers tend to bloom in the spring. The trees also start to grow their leaves back and they are no longer sad and dead-looking like they are in the wintertime. Some flowers that blooms in the spring are: celandine poppy, daffodil, tulip, snowdrop, grape hyacinth, and pansy.
I can’t wait to attend the ‘National Cherry Blossom Festival’ in Washington D.C. someday. It’s basically the official kick-off to spring in the DMV area. “The National Cherry Blossom Festival, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the beauty of nature and international friendship through year-round programs, events, and educational initiatives that enhance our environment, showcase arts and culture, and build community spirit” (NCBF).
I would highly encourage everyone to get in the habit of buying themselves and/or loved ones fresh flowers from time to time, it’s a symbol of love, joy, and beauty. And it’s the best time to go plant shopping as well!
The weather can be a bit unpredictable in the spring. It could be a warm 75 degrees during the day and a chilly 45 degrees at night. But usually, the weather isn’t too hot or too cold which makes it very comfortable. When the weather is too hot, people don’t know how to act, they get aggressive, etc. When it’s too cold, people are more depressed and unmotivated. The only downside to spring weather is all the rain showers we get, particularly in the month of April. But ya know the saying: “April showers brings May flowers”. Think of it as Earth’s natural “spring cleansing” before the summer solstice.
When I think of spring fashion, I think of casual wear, light fun colors, and denim. Denim jackets are an essential springtime must-have because they aren’t as heavy as a coat or too thin. Denim jackets will definitely keep you warm when the weather drops at night. They can be paired with a sundress, active wear/leggings, and more. I love a good form-fitting denim mini dress and a chambray button up shirt.
You’ll see more people wearing the color white, white sneakers, slip-on shoes, silk dresses, stylish sunglasses, colorful handbags, brighter makeup and beautiful nail designs. Check out Forbes- Biggest Fashion Trends of Spring 2021 for more ideas. My favorite new trends are the corset-inspired pieces and square-framed sunglasses.
How bomb are these?!
I didn’t realize how many calendar events and holidays there are during the spring season, until I counted them for this post. Starting off with International Women’s Day/Month (March). Followed by Palm Sunday, April Fools Day, Easter, Tax Day, 4/20, Earth Day, Passover, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, and Juneteenth. For many students across the United States, ‘Spring Break’ also occurs during this time. So there’s lots of celebrations going on. Also, the Astrological New Year begins with Aries season on March 21st. Taurus and Gemini season follows soon after.
Spring = A Time for Renewal.
On the first day of spring, there is a huge collective feeling of renewal. A sense of new hope and new beginnings. It’s all about getting rid of the old and in with the new. Spring cleaning is so much fun to me. I feel so much more inspired and rejuvenated. It’s the perfect time to write down new goals and make changes to your old goals that didn’t work out.
It’s the perfect time to clean up the house, try a new wall color, clean out your closet, recycle, and donate items you no longer use or wear. I love connecting more with nature and getting grounded. I think springtime may be my favorite season after all.
What new goals are you setting for yourself? what are you getting rid of? what are your favorite things about springtime? I would love to know!
I also did a Things I Love About Autumn and Why blog post back in September 2020, go check it out. Stay tuned for a ‘Things I Love About Summer and Why’ edition coming soon in June.
