My first tip to overcoming writer’s block is to surprisingly- STOP writing.
I know that sounds crazy but it actually does make sense if you really think about it. If you try to force yourself to write when you’re feeling uninspired you’re only going to be writing bull
shit, excuse my French. When I was going through my writer’s block I had topics that I wanted to write about but as I was writing, I just wasn’t feeling passionate about it which leads me to my next tip..
//Rest & Rejuvenate.
Resting is just as important as working and creating. As creatives, we get inspired when we’re well rested rather than tired and burnt out. So catch up on those zzz’s, take a staycation, have a spa day, or just spend more time around folks that make you happy.
//Remember your purpose.
Ask yourself: “Why am I writing this?”, “What and who am I doing this for?”, “Do I enjoy this?”, “Am I passionate about this?”. Those questions will most likely make you remember your purpose and your reason why. Usually after I remind myself of who I am, I instantly get hyped up!
//Write down goals.
What’s a plan or a dream without goals to attain those dreams and bring your plans to fruition?. Make sure your goals are realistic so that you don’t get in over your head. Accomplish small goals first.
//Plan out your content.
There’s this wonderful app and website called: Trello.com, that I 100% stand by for all my project and blog planning. I can create calendar boards for an entire years worth of content ideas. What I also like is that you can set reminders, due dates, color code items, make descriptions, and so much more!
Although it is important to plan so that you stay on track and that you always have something to write about, don’t become obsessed with planning everything. Allow room for fun and spontaneity with your creativity. Try to avoid things becoming so mundane and boring. Too much structure kills creativity.
So the question of the day is: How do you juggle a full-time job and still make time for blogging?
Well, just like you make time to get up every day and make it to your 9 to 5 job on time, you can get up and create content for your blog. I try my best to type up more than one blog post, and then have them on a set schedule so that they go live on the day/time that I want them to. And then, all I should have to worry about is promoting the post.
If it helps- write out your blog post and ideas on paper. Then, get together your photos, featured images, tags, headers, and links. Typing up your post should be the last thing you do. I also try to work on my blogs when I get home from work for at least 30mins to an hour and even longer on the weekends so that they can be ready to publish sometime during the following week. I rarely ever create and publish a whole post in one day.
