10 TV Shows to Know Me

I found this trend circulating around on Twitter one day by the artist named Tierra Whack (view the Twitter trend here), and I immediately became obsessed. I decided instead of just posting it as a tweet why not make it a whole blog post and show how some of the shows are a representation of my life.

Scrubs.

I chose this show for obvious reasons- I’m in the healthcare field. I wasn’t too crazy about this show when it was on air but there were some funny moments. It’s funny how I never used to go searching for this show on the TV menu, it just randomly used to be on sometimes. I can relate very well to the different crazy scenarios with patients and the silly co-worker relationships. I also wear scrubs majority of the time at work (so comfy!). If you didn’t know, I started out as a Medical Assistant in 2014. Since June of 2021, I’ve been on the administrative side of things.

Degrassi: The Next Generation.

First of all, this picture of Drake is crackin’ me up. Boy, did he come a long way! Anyways, I remember running home after school to catch a re-run episode of Degrassi. I didn’t have cable at home so I would go to my grandma’s house to watch cable tv and to do my homework till my mom and stepdad came to pick me up. ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’ literally carried me through my middle and high school years. I’m so glad I got to grow up with this show. The Canadian TV show ran from 2001 to 2015. I graduated high school in 2011.

In Living Color.

You can’t tell me that the ‘In Living Color’ theme song and intro wasn’t lit! This was the first time I ever seen so many black people in funny spaces being goofy, dancing, and looking fly at the same time. My young ass wanted to be a Fly Girl so bad! (move over, J.Lo Lol). This show is such a classic. ‘In Living Color’ and ‘MadTV’ over ‘Saturday Night Live’ any day. So many lovable characters on this show- Homey D Clown, Fire Marshall Bill, Benita Butrell, etc.

Charmed (the original 90s version).

Unpopular “popular” opinion: the show got better once Prue was killed off. And I don’t know who needs to hear this but, the new Charmed series is NOT it. Only the originals will be acknowledged here. If I had to choose my favorite witch, it would be Paige. I liked her powers the most, followed by Piper’s. I’m sorry but, I don’t want visions of the future and past tormenting me. From the book of shadows, casting spells, the many love interests, this show had it all. I’m a stan for witchcraft.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Buffy was out there saving the world and still hittin’ the mall, I loved it- such an icon, ha-ha. About 2 years ago, I decided to binge watch this show all the way through, and it was one of the best decisions ever. I was a little too young to remember every single episode when this show first came out so watching it over as an adult made me gain much more appreciation for this show and how great it was. Buffy was kickin’ ass. Sis was not a damsel in distress at all. I loved Spike, Angel, Faith, and I also loved when Bianca Lawson made her appearance as Kendra.

Insecure.

‘Insecure’ will forever hold a special place in my heart. As we all know, the 5th and final season just aired back in December 2021 and I’m still not okay. This show could’ve done at least 3 to 5 more seasons. I personally picked this show because of how much I can relate to the awkward black girl herself- Issa. I felt like I’ve been in nearly every situation she’s been through on the show. I love how this show spotlights black love and sisterhood, literally everything I desire for myself. The music/soundtracks, hair, and wardrobe alone had me obsessed. Mollys character development was remarkable, and I saw myself in her when it came to having high expectations. Every ‘Insecure’ episode was like a rewarding therapy session.

The Parkers.

Despite the desperate and very annoying obsession with Professor Oglesby, ‘The Parkers’ was a pretty good show. My relationship with my mom is very dear to me so Nikki and Kim’s mother-daughter bond on the show was the closest I could find to resembling my relationship with my mom. Full of laughs and fun. Kim and Nikki were both supportive and always had each other’s back. Kim could be such an airhead which made it even funnier. I promise I’m not that air-headed, but I do have my blonde moments lol.

American Horror Story.

Unlike all the other previous shows, this one is still on air (for now), and I love it so much. ‘AHS’ is one of my top favorite shows of all times. Every season is great in its own way and brings a new storyline. It’s so psychologically thrilling and erotic (just like me ;)). It gives all the spooky weird vibes that I like. Some of my favorite seasons are ‘Coven’, ‘Murder House’, ‘Asylum’, ‘Hotel’, and the most recent ‘Double Feature: Part. 1- Red Tide’. The cast is phenomenal as well.

The Haunting of Hill House.

The unhealed trauma, the depressive episodes, the haunting family memories and secrets- whew, very emotional and dark. I wholeheartedly believe in ghosts and the supernatural realm. ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ is a reimagining of a classic gothic horror novel by Shirley Jackson and is a great representation of how our past shapes who we are. This show reminds me of my personal struggles with mental health. ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ is a great follow up series to watch too. What a coincidence that my last name happens to be HILL.

The Walking Dead.

When you’re living in survival mode, people will do some out of pocket things to survive. What a huge representation on the way of the world in today’s society, minus the zombies. I’ve always been a big fan of zombie movies like ‘Dawn of The Dead’ and ‘Night of The Living Dead’, so this show is very fitting for me. I honestly don’t know if I could survive a zombie apocalypse, I would probably die of starvation or do something stupid like trip and fall if I’m being chased. Every episode of ‘The Walking Dead’ keeps me on the edge of my seat in suspense. On the show, we’ve lost some beloved characters by the hands of zombies and other human villains like Negan and Alpha along the way.

Till next time,
